Remember the Scooter?
The Razor A scooter … What does that phrase make you think about? If you have children, I’m certain that you’ve heard of the Razor A scooter series, but they weren’t about when we were children. However, the concept was, even though I forget the brand names from my youth.
I adored my two-wheeled, push-powered scooter when I was a kid. Mum and Dad had their car, my older brothers had their bicycles and I had my scooter. It didn’t go very fast, but then, I didn’t go very far either, but it was a vehicle, of sorts and it gave a feeling of freedom. I had my wheels and I was on the move!
Well, the modern variety of that scooter is the Razor A scooter series. And they really are modern too! They are a far cry from the simple scooters of years ago. The Razor A scooter series was brought out in the year 2000 and is sturdy, strong, collapsible and safe.
The Razor A scooter series comes in several guises to accommodate various age groups, abilities and pockets. For example, the Razor A scooter is meant for children of six years and older, while the Razor A2 scooter, the Razor A3 scooter and the Razor Pro scooter are intended for older, heavier, more demanding and more skilful riders. With prices starting at about $25 none of them is over-priced.
The Razor A scooter series is made from aircraft-quality light aluminium and weighs in at only six pounds. That’s light enough for any young child to be able to carry, if necessary, without risk of injury. It is also collapsible, which means that it is easy to carry under your arm, in the boot of your car or on the bus. Storage is a doddle as well.
The Razor A scooter range is height-adjustable too in that the handlebars can be raised as your child grows up or if an older sibling wants a go. It also has a heavy-duty braking system, which is naturally quite important as these scooters will easily travel at speeds of five or six mph on the flat and much more on a slope. Going down hill, that is.
The Razor A scooter series also has lesser and greater stable companions. The Razor Kiddie Kick is intended for children younger than six and has a third wheel for increased stability, although it is just as strong and durable as the Razor A scooter series. The Razor A scooter series is intended for ‘young-minded’ people from the age of six. I say ‘young-minded’ because it is quite the rage now, to put one in the car and scooter the last mile or two into work or college. That mile or two every day will save you gas and give you extra exercise over a prolonged period of time. After all, it all adds up, doesn’t it?
Furthermore, for those who require a bit more power, there are the Razor E100(S), Razor E200(S) and the Razor E300(S), which are electrically driven scooters. The (S) denotes that they have a seat attached.
So, why not introduce your child to the idea of travel with a Razor A scooter? Give your child the opportunity to look back on his or her younger years in 20-30 years time and remember zooming about at three-five mph on a Razor A scooter.
Do you have great memories of your chilhood scooter? The Razor A scooter is the modern equivilent. Come over to our website at http://razorascooter.com and find out more.
Porsche 977 Carrera
A new Porsche 911 is always fascinating because it’s exciting to see how after more than 40 years of improvement the Porsche team still manages to bring alterations and improvements to this iconic exemplar.
The new 997 combines the silky contemporary appearance of the 996 series with the popular retro styling of the older 911′s. The front end is completed with round lights and separate parking/fog/indicator lights. This modification, combined with wider hips resembles the last of the air-cooled 911′s, the 993. Other changes in the body shell are the new door handles, wing mirrors and the trendy cut of the rear wings into the bumper/lights.
Even if the 997 looks a lot like the preceding model, the 996, the new car is in point of fact 38mm wider which makes for a more forceful look. With each new model brought out, Porsche has tried to reduce the drag co-efficient helping the 911 glide through the air more efficiently thereby aiding performance. The same thing has been done with the new car, and if we compare the 993 Cd of 0.34 to the 997`s 0.28, we can see how far the aerodynamic game has moved on. The latest body shell and rear wing combine with new under body paneling to also offer increased levels of down force for this latest evolution of Porsche’s best.
The latest Porsche model has the best handling 911 ever. Improving a car’s rigidity helps ensure that the suspension is able to work more effectively and although not making such a quantum leap as the team did with the 996, Porsche improved torsional rigidity by 8% and added as much as 40% more strength.
For their new model car, Porsche wanted to enhance crash safety provisions so they added two new air bags, which are located in the side of each front seat back-rest and are calculated to protect the thorax. They also kept the earlier two front and two side airbags, which means that now there are six air bags in total. For the same reason, that is crash safety, the reinforced body shell features additional protection such as a more widespread use of very high strength steel.
The most recent model is also 50 kg heavier than the 996. The reason is that current crash safety regulations sort of force vehicle makers to produce new cars of increased weight, despite the widespread use of a large range of weight saving measures, such as an aluminum bonnet.
Aside from the crash safety advancements, much of the additional weight can be attributed to the higher standard specifications of the new cars. The power to weight ratio is analogous with the latest car offering 233 bhp per tonne against it’s predecessors 238 but the new model’s superior aerodynamics must help it achieve Porsche’s claimed performance figures, which are identical to those of the 996.

Why I Came To Thailand
I first arrived in Thailand in 2004 and I came here more of less by accident. I had travelled a lot in Europe: Russia, Western Europe, Scandinavia, North Africa and north South America, but I had never got around to travelling to Asia.
One night, I was talking to a friend who had travelled extensively throughout the world and he was telling me about his favourite place, to where he had been returning year after year for fourteen years. Knowing my friend’s experience as a traveller, I was very surprised to hear that he had been choosing to go to the same spot in Asia for fourteen years.
I had to ask him which part of huge Asia held such an attraction for him and he said Thailand. I knew practically nothing about Thailand, except that I had had a few meals at a near-by Thai restaurant over the years. I also knew from collecting stamps as a kid that it used to be called Siam. Anyway, my friend asked me if I’d like to go. I answered that I would ‘one day’ and meant it.
He startled me by saying that he was going for a month soon and that I was welcome to go with him. I replied that I had a couple of jazz festivals to go to soon and maybe I would, if there was at least a month between them and if I could get a flight and if… I could hear myself putting him off, but I did not understand why.
A few hours later, I went home and being a keen Internet surfer, I checked out a bit about Thailand on the travel brochure sites. It looked really fantastic. The prices were good too except for the flights. Hotels were cheap to reasonable and food and drinks prices were insignificant compared to where I lived. So, I checked the dates of the two Jazz festivals and they were thirty-three days apart. Now for the flight. I spent well into the next morning checking flights and found one for the day after the first festival leaving from our local airport. It was not the cheapest flight, but it gave me more time.
In a reckless moment I booked it there and then online. I then found an inn with rooms to let online that my friend had said he went to on quiz evenings and guessed that they would be open by now serving breakfasts. I sent them an email and a reply came back twenty minutes later. I had been lucky again. The boss was in the middle of checking yesterday’s figures, when he saw my email come through. However, not sure of his Internet ability, he wanted me to phone him right away. I checked my watch, it was still 4AM so I phoned.
He took my booking on trust and so I did not have to make a payment. I had heard about Thailand, made up my mind to go and booked the flight and room all within five hours and I could not wait for nine o’clock to come to inform my friend that I would be going too.
