Virgin Airlines operates long haul routes between the UK and North America, Africa, the Caribbean, Australia, Asia, and the Middle East from its main bases at London Heathrow and London Gatwick and a secondary base at Manchester Airport, a leader in the industry, Virgin Airlines is known for its brashly British attitude. Owned by Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and Singapore Airlines.
Virgin Atlantic serves about 30 destinations worldwide with its fleet of more than 35 aircraft. It further extends its network through code-sharing relationships (agreements that allow airlines to sell tickets on each other’s flights) with other airlines including Air China, Continental Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Australia-based sister company Virgin Blue.
Plans for two routes, one from London to the Falkland Islands in the aftermath of the Falkland War, and the other from London Gatwick to JFK Airport, were either scrapped or rejected. Plans were in the works for a route between London Gatwick and Newark Liberty International Airport, when it became necessary for the company to secure additional funding.Virgin Atlantic and its sister companies got their start in’82 when American Randolph Fields teamed up with pilot Alan Hellary to launch British Atlantic Airways.
Fields and Branson finalized a deal (Fields was eventually bought out) in contentious negotiations, and the airline, now renamed Virgin Atlantic, operated its first flight between London and Newark in June of’84. Thanks to financing from sister company Virgin Records and smart timing (the airline’s first flights took advantage of the summer travel season) the company posted a profit in its first year of operation.
Virgin Atlantic and British Airways have been rivals since the company’s inception. The competition became even more intense when the UK government began allowing Virgin Atlantic to operate from London Heathrow airport in January’91. This move led to BA’s so-called “dirty tricks” campaign against Virgin Atlantic which included libel lawsuits, and an out-of-court settlement on BA’s part after lawyers found evidence of the extraordinary efforts BA was taking to “kill off” Virgin Atlantic.

Branson vehemently asserts his displeasure with a potential British Airways/American Airlines partnership. Presently, Virgin Atlantic has three cabin classes. These classes include upper class, premium economy and economy. The upper class would be comparable to what most people know as a business class as cabin service is not provided. Unlike most airlines’ business class, the seating in Virgin Atlantic’s upper class boasts to be the largest flat bed.
Premium Economy passengers have a separate check-in and receive priority boarding ahead of Economy passengers. These seats are wider and provide more legroom than Economy accommodations. Most aircraft have been updated to include Premium Economy seating with laptop power. In Economy class, in-flight drinks are free, and an updated Economy seat with adjustable lumbar support has recently been added across the fleet.
All Virgin Atlantic aircraft offer personal televisions mounted in the seat backs. Some of us are at least a little on edge when we take flights and others of us are beside ourselves with fear. The reality is though, that for many of us taking flights is a necessity for work, travel or to stay in contact with our loved ones. Flying does not have to be an anxiety forming experience, in fact you can make your flights very enjoyable with a little preparation.
If you tend to fret when you are flying, then you should visit your doctor to have them give you something to calm your nerves. There are natural cures for anxiety that are also very effective, such as taking a herbal nerve tonic or rubbing relaxing lavender oil into your temples.
Avoiding dehydration while on board the aeroplane is an important way to make flights more comfortable. Do this by packing a small tube of moisturizer and using it often. Drink plenty of water and avoid on flight alcohol or coffee, which both dehydrate you. Besides being drunk on a flight is not a nice experience for the drinker or the people that have to sit near you.
One of the best things about international flights is that it is the perfect excuse to engage in a bit of “me time”. Sit back and catch up on some movies, read a great book, get into sudoku or listen to some relaxing music. Even though you are in a confined space there are still plenty of enjoyable activities you can do. Think about what you are going to do on the flight to avoid boredom and make the most of the time.

Often this will be a vegetarian option and they tend to be better than the meals that are served to most of the passengers as standard. There are some airlines that also have snacks at the rear of the plane for extra hungry travelers.
With a little forethought and preparation you can make your flight much more enjoyable and pleasant than it might otherwise be. Think about what your needs are and come prepared, with the minimum amount of hand luggage to avoid hauling it all over the airport and your flights will be great from now on.

There are an unknown number of distinct tribal and people groups included within its borders. Each one has its own characteristics and way of life. There are specific indigenous people in each country, plus other ethnic groups that have moved in over time.
Sudan is the country of the pyramids. Although, one usually hears of the pyramids in Egypt, Sudan actually has more than Egypt does. There are 223 known pyramids in this country. They are enormous, steep sided structures that measure from 75 to 100 feet tall.
What do you know about Libya? Most people know very little. Interestingly, it has a flag that is only one color. There are no other details on the flag. It is quite large in size. In fact it is the 17th largest country in the world and the fourth largest on the continent.
Libya has a desert that covers 90 percent of its land mass, but it is the ninth richest country in Africa because of its petroleum resources. It has a very low population in spite of its large land mass.
Have you ever heard about the Goliath frog? Equitorial Guinea and Cameroon are home to this frog. It is 30 inches long when you stretch it out, and just its body can measure 12 inches long. Even though, it is so big in adulthood, the tadpoles are the same size as other species of tadpoles. Once they are grown the can jump up to 10 feet forward. Because of their size, everyone expects them to make a loud noise, but they don’t make any noise at all.
One of the most exciting continents in the world is Africa. Its teeming wild life and intriguing Safaris have made it a popular vacation spot. It’s a place that still attracts adventurers.
