One of the world’s best loved ballerinas, Darcey Bussell, will be Godmother to the latest and most sophisticated addition to the P&O Cruises fleet.

Mother-of-two Bussell, 40, is now based in Australia, with the Sydney Dance Company being one of three charities she has chosen to benefit from the naming ceremony.

Darcey Bussell epitomises glamour, sophistication and elegance, all qualities P&O have strived to achieve in Azura. Azura’s maiden voyage departs Southampton on 12 April 2010 for a 16 night holiday to the Mediterranean.

From a distance she’ll look just like her sister, but P&O’s new superliner Azura couldn’t have a more different personality from Ventura, launched last year with the roar of giant Scalextrics and all the fun of the circus.

News that childish pursuits such as toy car racing and bungee trampolining have been set aside for more grown-up pastimes such as ballroom dancing and wine tasting aboard Azura will be music to the ears of P&O’s fan-base of mature and middle-class customers.

Her dining experiences will be truly exceptional. Behind every one of the restaurants you’ll find passion, flair and expertise. Michelin-star chef Atul Kochhar’s venue Sindhu, will serve dishes blending India’s homeland spices with familiar British tastes and textures.

Why Do So Many People Love To Take Luxury Cruise Holidays?

In this era of faster everything, including faster and larger commercial airliners where passengers are packed in like sardines, one thing seems to remain constant. That is the wonderful, leisurely world of cruising. For many years the airline industry has experienced numerous setbacks, while the cruise industry has been growing by leaps and bounds. There are many reasons why you should consider becoming a part of this amazing phenomenon. Here are some of them.

According to some recent research from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), ninety-five percent of cruisers give top marks to their cruising experience and over seventy-five percent are planning to cruise again within three years.

Contrary to what some people may think, cruises are very affordable. With most vacations you end up paying for flights, hotels or resorts, restaurants, entertainment, and also car rentals. When you add all these costs up, cruises can be a great bargain. When booking a cruise, in most cases you pay for the airfare and cruise. However, if you happen to live close enough to your cruise ship departure port, you may be able to drive there a lot cheaper than you can fly.

Even if you do have to fly to the departure port you can always get a flight and cruise package which is usually less expensive than buying your flight and cruise separately. You will save even more money as your lodging, restaurant meals, and entertainment are also included.

When you book a luxury cruise vacation, well over 85% of your holiday is prepaid and that includes all meals, night clubs, stage shows, movies, and entertainment, as well as numerous other activities and amenities. In addition, most ships have onboard activities such as golf, rock climbing, dancing, swimming, scuba diving lessons which can lead to certification, Pilates, yoga, and fitness trainers. You can also pamper yourself with wonderful spas and body massages.

Another way to save a bundle on a cruise is to book an inside cabin. If you don’t need to have a cabin that has a balcony or ocean view, then you will save a lot of money. You have use of all the shared amenities with your fellow passengers, but it is costing you a lot less.

You can also save a bundle on repositioning cruises. A repositioning cruise is made possible at certain times of the year, usually in the spring and fall, when cruise lines relocate their ships from one part of the world to another.

There are many luxury cruise vacations to choose from, ranging from three day mini cruises to several month long cruises as well as a fantastic around the world cruise odyssey.

When you cruise, you are traveling in the lap of luxury in a floating five-star hotel. You will be pampered and feel that you are living the life of a king or queen, not only for a day, but for the entire length of the cruise. Elegant surroundings, gourmet dining and impeccable service are a few of the superlatives that can be used to describe cruising.

If you like delicious food you will absolutely love gourmet meals and scrumptious desserts created by great chefs and served in a variety of restaurants. There are always wonderful buffets available throughout the day and even midnight buffets. A number of themed lounges are located throughout the cruise ships for your convenience.

Love watching Broadway style shows as well as theater performances without having to make reservations or pay exorbitant prices for tickets? Then going on a cruise is the answer. There are so many things that are included on cruises which make them such an incredible value for your travel and entertainment dollar.

From children to great grandparents, there is always something to interest everyone on a cruise. You have the option to be as active as you like or you can just relax and experience magnificent sunrises and breathtaking sunsets while watching the world go by. So many wonderful, precious memories and experiences will stay with you a lifetime when you take a luxury cruise.

Feel like partying around the clock? That’s not a problem. Whether you’re with a partner or single, it’s always party time. You don’t even have to plan or even clean up after a party, only have a lot of fun!

Businesses from around the world book conferences and seminars, team building get-togethers, new product launches and employee reward vacations on cruise ships. Cruise lines do not charge extra for conference room facilities and use of audio and video equipment.

Group cruises are not only for companies and business people. Family reunions, honeymoons and weddings, sports groups and clubs, charities and fund raisers are only some of the many kinds of groups that have their events on cruises.

People with disabilities should have no problem getting around on a cruise ship. Cruise lines have made onboard accessibility a non-issue as their ships are equipped with ramps, elevators and easily accessible cabins and state rooms.

Modern cruise ships have dramatically reduced the problem of seasickness. Today’s larger ships slice through the waves instead of riding on top of them. Also, new innovative technologies like stabilizers and counterbalancing systems have greatly reduced the pitch and roll of cruise ships, all but neutralizing any problem of seasickness.

Cruise Cabins: How to Make the Perfect Choice

It’s important to make a good choice when selecting your cabin for your next cruise. After staying in several different cabin types, I have been able to learn about the the different cabin types. The different cabin types have their pros and cons. Most of the cruise lines have different basic categories that their cabins are classified into based on their layout and sizes.

You can save a lot of money on your next cruise by booking an inside cabin. Located in the inside of the ship, the cabins usually do not have windows. After arriving in my inside cabin, I was pleasantly suprised to see how comfortable and cozy it was. The darkness of the inside cabin when the lights are off make it a perfect environment for cruisers that like to sleep in. One important thing to look for is the location of your room in relation to stairwells. Stairwells can be a source of noise due to the foot traffic.

Outside cabins are the next step up and may be larger in size that most inside cabins. Featuring a regular window or porthole, these rooms enable you to see what is going on outside the ship. However, the cabin window wasn’t in a location that made it easy to look out of, so I really didn’t use it that much.

The next step up is the balcony cabin. These cabins are usually slightly larger than the standard outside cabin. Your cabin will have a door with access to your own “private” balcony. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with our balcony because only a thin sheet of metal separated us from our neighbor. When they were out on their balcony I could clearly hear all of their conversations. However, the experience of sleeping at night with the balcony door open was an unforgettable experience.

The most expensive and luxurious cabins on the ship are the suites. These cabins can range in size from slightly larger than standard balcony rooms to small apartments. If money isn’t an issue and you want to experience the most luxurious way to cruise, these are the cabins to choose. If you intend to spend a lot of time in your cabin, the added cost of a suite may be well worth the cost.

Consider all your options when choosing a cabin for your next cruise. The features and sizes of the different cabin categories may make one type more suitable than others for your situation. Enjoy your cruise!

Cruises – Are You Concerned You May Get Seasick On A Cruise?

There are lots of people who love to travel that would really like to take a luxury cruise vacation or holiday but are worried that they may get seasick. If they think that it could be a problem they should book a short one to three day cruise. Also, this information below may change their minds concerning seasickness on cruises.

Modern cruise ships have drastically reduced the problem of seasickness. The larger ships of today cut through the waves instead of riding on top of them. As well, new technologies like stabilizers and counterbalancing systems have greatly reduced the pitch and roll of these ships, all but neutralizing the problem of seasickness.

However, if you think you have a severe seasickness problem, you may want to book an inside cabin located on a lower deck and in the middle of the ship. This is the area of the ship where the least rocking motion is felt. If you are planning to book a trans-Atlantic cruise, it is possible that an ocean crossing may be rough at certain times.

If needed, the ship’s doctor can prescribe medication such as Benadryl, Bonine, or Dramamine tablets that will treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness, the worst symptoms of motion sickness. There is another very effective, physician prescribed, anti-seasickness product called Transderm Scop. It is a small patch that is placed behind each ear. These patches can lessen the effects of, or even prevent, motion sickness.

Sea-Bands, which apply gentle pressure to the acupressure points on your wrists also work well. They have been clinically tested to help provide relief from nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness when traveling, anesthesia, chemotherapy, pregnancy, and any condition that may induce vomiting. They are available in pharmacies and drug stores as well as most travel oriented stores and don’t require a prescription. They do not cause any side effects so can be used safely, again and again, whenever you feel nauseous. They also can be purchased online at Sea-Band.com.

Health care professionals such as a physician, or pharmacist should always be consulted about drug dosages and their possible side effects. There can also be side effects caused by different drug combinations, even with over-the-counter medications.
