Another aspect of Mayan science at work is in agriculture. Their recognition and development of maize as a base crop and food source is largely responsible for the survival of the civilisation. Listing great things about Manhattan is the easiest thing in the world, there are so many of them. This vibrant, cosmopolitan city is loved by both those who live there and those who visit. A trip to New York is on everyone’s wish list.
I’ve done a great deal of exploring since I became a resident of Manhattan and the diverse people and places just blows me away. The only problem with New York is the sheer size of it; you never feel fully part of it, however hard you try.
These are my favorite parts of Manhattan, When you come to New York I want you see this wonderful city through my eyes, not through a tourist brochure. Trust me, you’ll love it!
I’ve tried out many places to eat and drink since I’ve been living here, and my favorites are in the eclectic East Village.
In only 1 square mile, you will find more choices of shopping, places to eat, bars etc than you could ever imagine. Extremely popular with those in their 20′s and 30′s; the East Village seamlessly flows into the area known as the Lower East side, and the two are very alike.
If you are looking for somewhere that caters more for those out of the East Village age bracket, head for the West Village. The trees that line the sidewalks outside the boutiques and cafes add to the attraction of this area. If you like a lively atmosphere coupled with lovely scenery, this is the place for you.
One of the most naturally beautiful parts of the wonderful city is Central Park. Residing in the area known as the Upper West Side, this combines everything that you expect from Manhattan; style and elegance.
These areas are just a few of my favorites, and I hope I’ve whetted your appetite as to what Manhattan has to offer. I’m going to leave now because trust me; I could go on for hours!

But the Water and Moon Festival is something more than just a long-established Khmer race as in the evening a bright float parade is arranged for in which Loy Pratip, traditional illuminated Khmer floats stage a dazzling display of rich Cambodian culture. And on top of the amazing float parade, beautiful fireworks display brings an overall mood of festivity among the large crowd gathered alongside the river and circling the famous Royal Palace. In order to get a fair idea of the scenes visible during the Water and Moon Festival in the Phnom Penh you can compare it to the famous New Orleans event, the Mardi Gras parade.
The Moon Salutation, also known as the ‘Sampeas Preah Khe’ is an important religious feature of the Water and Moon Festival as the festival happens at a time when full moon appears, which is thought to be a favorable signal for the coming harvest season by the locals. The indigenous people pay their salutation to the full moon and pray for a good harvest, while other gatherers pray for the country’s prosperity as the festival also coincides with beginning of new fishing season and start of new year.
However, no festival is complete without a feast, and the food for the Water & Moon Festival that marks the celebration is the Ork Ambok. Ork Ambok is a special Cambodian delicacy which is particular to this occasion. The Ork Ambok consists of rice with either coconut or banana juice, which is consumed along with various fruits and vegetables. Not only is the festival, which continues non-stop for three days, a treat for the local participants of the festival, but is equally exciting to those who come to Phnom Penh from around the world for witnessing this amazing spectacle.
