Island Of Vir, A Place For Adventure Sports

On the northwest side of the Zadar county, 25 away from the county center, the city of Zadar, the island of Vir is situated. Although an island, there is a bridge that connects the island with the mainland. The bridge was built 1976. what enabled the island to become the constituent part of the mainland. Before that, the island was one of the most economically deprived parts of the Zadar county.
Privlaka Draft is situated between Vir and Privlaka. It is 3 meters deep and 300 meters wide. On the eastern part of the Privlaka draft the little island called Skoljic is located. It is covered with pine wood and has a long sandy beach which makes that islet very special. Recently, the islet was connected with the island of Vir by road and during the low tide it is integral part of island of Vir.
Povljana Channel separates the islands of Vir and Pag. Among the island of Pag, Vir is surrounded with the islands of Planika, Maun, Olib, Ist, Molat, Sestrunj, Rivanj and Ugljan.
Although Vir is an island, it doesn’t have some huge disadvantages like some other islands. This is mostly connected with the traffic connection with the mainland because the island of Vir has a bridge that practically makes it the part of the mainland. On the other side, Vir has all the advantages of the island like indented coast, clean sea and plenty of beaches. The Mediterranean climate makes it an interesting location for all sorts of adventure and water sports.
The beaches are mostly sandy and pebble. Some of them are situated near the pine forest, so you can find a shade on the beach under the trees. The sea is crystal and clean. All of these parameters make Vir an ideal island for vacation with your family.
