Azura Innaugrial Voyage

One of the world’s best loved ballerinas, Darcey Bussell, will be Godmother to the latest and most sophisticated addition to the P&O Cruises fleet.

Mother-of-two Bussell, 40, is now based in Australia, with the Sydney Dance Company being one of three charities she has chosen to benefit from the naming ceremony.

Darcey Bussell epitomises glamour, sophistication and elegance, all qualities P&O have strived to achieve in Azura. The Ship will offer the service, quality and entertainment associated with cruising at its very best and as dance will play a key part in this, it is entirely fitting for Darcey to give Azura the best possible start in life.

Azura’s maiden voyage departs Southampton on 12 April 2010 for a 16 night holiday to the Mediterranean.

From a distance she’ll look just like her sister, but P&O’s new superliner Azura couldn’t have a more different personality from Ventura, launched last year with the roar of giant Scalextrics and all the fun of the circus.

News that childish pursuits such as toy car racing and bungee trampolining have been set aside for more grown-up pastimes such as ballroom dancing and wine tasting aboard Azura will be music to the ears of P&O’s fan-base of mature and middle-class customers.

Her dining experiences will be truly exceptional. Behind every one of the restaurants you’ll find passion, flair and expertise. Michelin-star chef Atul Kochhar’s venue Sindhu, will serve dishes blending India’s homeland spices with familiar British tastes and textures.

P&O Azura is the only non-Fred Olsen ship to sail from Southampton with single cabins, they have 18 in total which are already sold out on 36 cruises. They are the most successful cabins in terms of sales already booked via p&o cruise agent website Southampton Cruises.
