Try Use Opera Glasses To View The Show
Opera glasses are also called theater binoculars. They are compact and low powered devices used for optical magnification at performances. Originally they were used at operas. The magnification of opera glasses is usually about a 3x power and is always under 5x. This is necessary due to light constraints.
In some ways, opera glasses may look like binoculars. They are however designed for use indoors. They are useful for those at an opera or other performance who have seats that are seated in the back of the theater or in the balconies. The give the theater goers the ability to see the stage from the locations that are far away.
Opera glasses are not true binoculars. From an optical point of view, they are Galilean in nature. That means that they use a convex front lens and a concave eyepiece. In contrast, binoculars are two folded telescopes. A folded telescope uses mirrors to make their overall length shorter but to still have the same focal length and magnification of a much longer telescope. The image quality in opera glasses is not as high as it is with binoculars, but it is upright, unlike some telescopes produce.
The design of opera glasses is so that they are small. They should not be obtrusive or distracting to other theater goers. Some models are designed to fold so that they easily fit into the pocket or purse.
It can take some adjustment to get used to using opera glasses. Fortunately, in many of the larger operas where they are needed most, they can be rented. You might want to try renting a pair to use before actually investing in your own set.
During the nineteenth century, opera goers used spectacles that had a long handle called a lorgnette. These glasses were more ornamental than useful. The lorgnette was preferred to spectacles by some of the more fashionable ladies. Some of the fancier opera glasses that are used today are shaped after the lorgnette of that time.
The use of opera glasses is truly a personal choice. They may be helpful in following the story line for some patrons however others find them to be annoying and unnecessary to follow the story line. The other factor may be the seat that you choose. While better seating may be more expensive, it often offers a much better view of the show without requiring the use of opera glasses.
Jeff B. has always loved the theater and opera, he currently helps run an opera glasses retail site where they sell opera glasses. Including Opera Glasses with handle, flashlight, chain and more!
Features To Take A Look At In Opera Glasses
When you are at any performing arts events you can use opera glasses to improve your sight. These glasses are fashionable and can be very easy to handle. When finding this material it helps to take a few things in mind.
First you should check out the general physical construction of your glasses. This construction should be one that is very luxurious in appearance. It is something that will need to fit in with your surroundings at a performing arts venue. A wooden panel is a necessity for the casing for your glasses. Brass that is noticeable and cannot scratch with ease should be used as well.
Different types of glasses will have different magnification levels. Most pairs will work with magnifying things by three times. Some of these glasses will work with magnification levels that are up to five times. This is especially useful if you are sitting very far from the stage.
A good field of vision is important for you to have with your glasses. A typical pair of glasses can give you a twenty-five millimeter field of vision in terms of its diameter. This diameter size is important for being able to focus on things. This includes being able to see individual things with clarity.
Being able to get your glasses stored properly is also useful. In many cases you can get your glasses folded up with ease. This is done by folding them at the center of the glasses. Even if you cannot use this on your glasses you can always use a good storage case. A strong case or a containment pouch can always be used.
The ability to handle your glasses with ease is also important. You can handle them like you would with standard binoculars. You can also use them with a handle for holding the glasses. Opera glasses of this type are known as Lorgnette glasses. Either way you should know that these two methods of handling the glasses are easy to handle.
You should check out opera glasses for being able to see things at a performing arts event. It is easy to see things but you should watch for some factors. You will need to see how you can hold onto these glasses. The vision diameter and the magnification level that is used are important to see too.

Madame Butterfly, the Betrayal: A Review of the Opera
Giacomo Puccini is the original writer of the popular opera Madame Butterfly. If you attend this dazzling opera we recommend bringing a pair of opera glasses to enjoy it to the fullest extent. And we will tell you why.
The Madame Butterfly opera begins with a United States Naval Officer, one of the main characters named Pinkerton and a Japanese Marriage Broker named Goro. Pinkerton and Goro are looking at a little house with a gorgeous view from the top of a hill overlooking the bay. Pinkerton wants to have the house home for 999 years. His 999 years include being able to cancel the housing agreement.
The wedding ceremony is soon to take place between Pinkerton and Butterfly. A lot of Butterfly’s relatives will be flying in and coming to the wedding. Butterfly’s uncle will not attend the wedding as he is a priest.
Pinkerton of course plans to marry Butterfly however, his true goal in life is to gain the love of as many beautiful women as possible, as he puts it, and he will not be satisfied until he captures the flowers of every shore. For this reason he retained the right to cancel the agreement any month. The time approaches that the stage will introduce you to the elegant Butterfly, have your opera glasses prepared.
Before you have the chance to see the beautiful bride Butterfly, you see the American consul who is with Pinkerton. He asks Pinkerton if he truly loves his bride to be. Pinkerton tries to say yes, but alas he cannot say for sure, but knows that he is mesmerized by her innocence, charm and beauty. He then speaks of having a true wedding with an American bride.
The Beautiful Butterfly graces the stage; Butterfly and Pinkerton are married with all of Butterfly’s family in attendance. As the celebration of the wedding continues, Butterfly’s uncle, the priest breaks in to the party and condemns Butterfly for renouncing her religion to marry Pinkerton. Butterfly’s heart breaks and finds herself in the arms of Pinkerton being comforted.
Months and weeks pass Butterfly and Pinkerton stay happily married, Butterfly is beyond content, nearly exploding with joy with the marriage to the man that she loves so much. One day Pinkerton finds that he must leave to fulfill his service as a naval officer, and tells Butterfly that he will soon return.
The third act opens to see that three years have passed since Pinkerton left. Every day, Butterfly watches from her windows to see if Pinkerton’s ship will come in. Butterfly has fallen even more in love with the missing man as the time has passed. One day, she sees a man walking up the path. She recognizes as the American Consul who is the friend of Pinkerton. She greets him, hoping for news from the love of her life. The truth of the matter is that Pinkerton has sent him to tell her that he has married another woman, and that he wont return. The news is given by the American guiltily.
Butterfly weeps as she hears the story of betrayal and leaves the room distraught. After a short moment she returns carrying a child, and reveals to the American Consul that it is Pinkerton’s. She exclaims with all her heart that her husband could not possibly leave her wife and child for another. After further conversation with the Consul, she accepts that her husband was never truly hers.
There is one final chapter to be played out in Madame Butterfly, but as always you must attend to see the end. This opera is truly amazing, and a wonder to behold, this is a performance that will try dazzle your senses, amazing costumes, wonderful music, and a story line to thrill. Remember to bring your opera glasses so that you can really enjoy this performance. This is a show that cannot be forgotten.

Opera Glasses and Shear Madness: a Comedic Review
Chances are, you have heard of Shear Madness, perhaps from a friend, or relative, and are considering attending a performance. My recommendation is that you should not attend, unless you would like to feel physical pain, and suffering from extreme laughter. However if you feel like you cheek and stomach muscles are in healthy enough shape, you may be able to endure this marathon of laughter. Opera glasses are very necessary for a performance of this type.
The play begins in a unisex hair salon; there are many types of people at coming in and out of the salon. We see many stereotypes, we see the dumb blond, homosexual hair dresser (played by John McGivern in the performance I attended.), the police officers, a high class woman, and of course the traditional red hot hunk of a man, which makes John McGivern’s character giggle with delight. In this scene we get the first bits of comedy. All of the characters seem to be sharing the most well guarded secrets with the hairdressers; much like as is found in the real world.
This play is ever changing as the topics of interest revolve around current events going on around the city Shear Madness is open in and the United States hot topics. The current events are twisted into a funny light. The characters use a lot of improvisation and sometimes the actors cannot contain their own laughter which only makes you laugh even harder. To make sure you see each actor slip up trying hard not to giggle, bring your Opera glasses.
During the play, all of a sudden, one of the characters will speak to the audience and ask for your opinion. People shout out the answer. Answers vary and it adds an entire new dimension to the already hilarious play. Be careful if you sit in the front three rows as you may be spotted out as the butt of a witty joke. Do not worry; the jokes are funny yet silly.
Aside from the typical chit chat you find in a beauty parlor, Shear Madness’ plot turns to a murder mystery. The person who is killed is always the same; it is the owner of the parlor. The owner lived above the parlor prior to being murdered, and you will see that any of the characters potentially could have been the murderer. You will be working and trying to figure out who the murderer is; your opera glasses will help you to not miss any subtle hints.
What makes this comedy play different than any other play is that the guilty murderer is different each time. The characters in the play will talk to the audience and ask them questions. The audience actually votes and chooses who the murderer is. As odd as this may sound, it is really a very clever concept. Some people even see this play more than once and usually see a different ending.
Shear Madness is one of the longest running plays that are not musical. Popular critics such as the New York Times, Newsweek, Chicago Sun-Times, The Wall Street Journal and more have given Shear Madness rave reviews.
Remember when you attend, as always; bring your opera glasses, so as to not miss one single moment! Opera glasses will help you to make sure that you don’t miss one moment or a laugh.

Opera Glasses ” Style Wear, Spyware Or Optical Device?
If it wasn’t for the Dutch optician Hans Lipperhey, we might not have had either binoculars or opera glasses today. He first started manufacturing simple binoculars in 1608. These were not much more than two telescopes connected by a central bridge, but they led to many further modifications and improvements. His early binoculars had a magnification capability of x3. Within less than a year the Italian mathematician and inventor Galileo Galilee made another drastic stride forward by increasing the magnification ability of telescopes to x30.
Binoculars gave a much wider field of view than telescopes, but since they had 2 convex lenses, the picture that you saw was inverted. It wasn’t until 1617 that Anton Schyrle added an additional lens to re-invert the image. In 1758 John Dollond of England invented the achromatic (color free) lens and thereby solved the problem of color distortion.
Another major step forward was the development of prismatic binoculars by an Italian by the name of Ignazio Porro – a gunnery officer. Prismatic binoculars had a much wider field of vision than before and offered dramatically improved magnification abilities as well.
We don’t find any mention of opera glasses in the printed media before the 1730 – in London. These rather primitive opera glasses were not binoculars – they were mini-sized Galilean telescopes. People used them for decorative purposes as much as to watch opera. The bodies were mostly highly decorated with numerous gems, enamel, mother of pearl and ivory.
It wasn’t until 23 in Vienna that we first find mention of binocular-type opera glasses. These were in fact simply two small telescopes with a bridge connecting them. The telescopes had to be focused individually by extending the tubes.
These very soon became as much a fashion item as an optical instrument. The designs became more elaborate and had to be worked on by painters, goldsmiths and other artists to create the ultimate fashion accessory. Theater goers not only used this to watch the stage, but also to scrutinize other people in the audience – presumably to see who else had opera glasses!
The design soon improved to allow for the simultaneous adjustment of both lenses. This was another major step forward and only served to increase the popularity of this type of glasses. They also became highly valued gifts – as one can see from the inscriptions found on many opera glasses of the time.
Nowadays there is a wide array of opera glasses available. You can get them in virtually any color you want. They come in many different styles and materials. Strangely enough, monoculars are still popular, as are opera glasses with handles or reading lights. You even get them fitted with a jealousy glass – so you can watch another person in the audience without being seen!

Opera Glasses and the Phantom: A Review
Phantom of the Opera is a marvelous performance that will send your feelings through an array of emotions from sadness, happiness, to fright. When planning on attending a performance of the Phantom of the Opera make sure you bring your opera glasses.
The Phantom of the Opera takes place in Paris in the nineteenth century. Two new opera house owners take over a theater that is thought to be haunted by a phantom. The phantom is said to be a man named Erik, a construction worker who helped build the hall. In reality Erik is not a ghost but is someone who was severely disfigured from birth and wears a mask on half of face to conceal his disfigured face.
As time goes on the Phantom come to one of the performers; Christine, and tells her that her father who has passed away, has sent him from heaven to give her voice lessons. The Phantom begins to train her through the walls of her dressing room, as these take place over the course of time Christine becomes a remarkable singer, and takes the leading role in the opera.
As Christine is performing one night on stage, Christine faints, and a man in the audience comes to save her. This man Raoul, we find out is a childhood friend of Christine, and begins to fall in love with her. Raoul begins to attend her performances, gifting her with flowers, and visiting with her often.
Erik begins to become jealous of Raoul, and their relationship. Erik can no longer hold himself back from seeing Christine and meeting her in person. Of course, Erik is wearing his famous mask. Erik brings Christine to his area where he hides out and lives under the opera house.
Our heroine becomes angry and scared as she finds that Erik will not let her leave his world. After some argument Erik promises that he will release her after five days. He then gives Christine a tour of his lair, which is bizarre and twisted. Make sure you have your opera glasses at this point to make sure you don’t miss a think
Christine desires to see the man behind the mask, and wonders who he really could be. In an amazing duet she pulls the mask by surprise from his face. We recommend using your opera glasses at this point to see if you can catch a glimpse of the Phantom’s face. After this amazing pinnacle of the duet, Erik feels betrayed and angry and vows to never release Christine from his underground lair. The Phantom, simply loves Christine, and more than anything wants this true love to be returned.
The story moves on from this pinnacle point, but you will have to attend this play to truly appreciate the masterpiece that it is. The music will amaze you, the storyline astound you in this epic performance. This is a show you will want to see several times, and as always remember to bring your opera glasses to experience it to its fullest.

Opera Glasses, Love, Racism, and Hairspray: A Review
Hairspray the musical is set in Baltimore, Maryland the year is 1962. Our hero in the musical is is a young overweight girl named Tracy. Tracy has always dreamed of becoming a big star, if and when you attend this musical, make sure you have a front row seat, if you don’t you will want to be sure to bring your opera glasses, so as not to miss a moment of this fast-paced play.
Tracy hears on the television that The Corny Collins Show is having a dance contest and she excitedly wants to enter the contest. Her overweight mother frowns at the idea. (You may have heard actor John Travolta played this part in the movie Hairspray.) Tracy’s mother is just trying to protect her dear daughter out of love as she does not want people to make her daughter a joke for being overweight. Plus, her mother thinks the show plays racist music.
With the good grace of her father Wilbur, Tracy finally gets permission to go on to the dance audition. During the audition, she meets with, and falls in love with a boy name Link Larkin. As the author I recommend, preparing for this moment, by making sure that you are using your opera glasses! You will surely want to catch the expression on Tracy’s face as you see her fall hopelessly in love with Link. At this point, Tracy begins a beautiful song about love, and her dream of being with Link. Tracy is rudely awakened from her daydream, only to find out that due to her weight, she did not make the cut for the dance competition. Just as her mother suspected would happen from the beginning.
Poor Tracy then returns back to school. Her troubles do not end at school. Tracy is then given a detention once again due to her hair being so big that kids sitting behind her cannot even see the chalk board! Hence, you can tell a reason why the musical is given the name Hairspray.
While Tracy is in detention, she meets a nice black boy named Seaweed who is kind enough to teach Tracy some dance steps and hot moves. There is a dance party scheduled for the school and the owner of the Corny Collins Show, Corny Collins himself, sees Tracy’s slick moves. He loves how she dances and lo and behold she is chosen to be a dancer on his popular show. This moment will be the perfect time to put on your opera glasses as of course Tracy is ecstatic as this is her big dream!
Again after all this Tracy finds more good news, Link Larkin, the love of her life is to sing a romantic song to her on the show! Amber, who is another girl that attends Tracy’s school is also in love with Link, finds out, and decides to take her rage out on on Tracy, cruelty ensues, including knocking Tracy out with a volleyball.
As we continue with the play, Tracy is invited to record shop that Seaweed’s mother owns, all during the play, Tracy continues to grow close to Seaweed, and is upset to find out that the show that she is about to go on, only allows black people to attend their shows once a month, on “Negro Day” because of this Tracy finds herself fighting for black rights, and helping her best friend, the ending of Hairspray the musical is sure to please, but you will have to attend to find out.
Hairspray is a magnificent musical that you are sure to enjoy. To get the most out of your enjoyment bring your opera glasses.
