When I was a young teenager I had a beach cruiser bike and I loved it. It was my mode of transportation and took me just about everywhere I needed to go. It had wide tires so it was easy to ride on gravel and dirt and even took you over the sand at the beach with no problem. I believe that was how it originally got it’s name, beach cruiser, due to the fact it was the best bike for riding along the sandy beach shoreline.
Big tires make the beach cruiser easy to pedal and, at that time, it was only a one gear bicycle. Today the new improved beach cruiser bike is easy to pedal up hills and really fun to fly down the other side. Just a little more effort gets you to the top of the hill.

No hand brakes, so you never feel like you have to have your hand stretched over the brake lever while you are riding. When I was a kid I thought I was so cool because I could ride with no hands for long periods of time, at least until I had to turn a corner.
