How many more tours will our troops have to stay in Iraq?
Many of our troops have been to Iraq five or more times. How many more tours will they have to spend there, particularly if John McCain is elected? In what ways will this be damaging to the military?
I understand what McCain is saying about the 100 years. And I "get" it. Please just answer the question.
Invading another nation for their property is much different from being invaded. Countries no matter how weak they may seem will defend themselves to their last man. Haven’t we learn anything from N. Korea and Vietnam ? After all these years of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, what have we achieved ? Nothing. The reason we won the war with Japan was not only because of the A bomb but because their emperor was concerned about his subjects. On the other hand, the afghans and iraqis have no specific leaders except for their spiritual leaders who encourage them to fight the infidels. To cut and run now would be shameful and not doing so would cost the nation more and more money as well as lives. Maybe in this situation, Obama would be the best bet to solve the dilema we are in after all due to his heritage, he may be in a better position to interact with them. McCain is too agressive and Hillary is too impulsive which is highly dangerous for a President.
YOU DONT GET IT DO YOU?
If we cut and run, the US will become the weakest Country in the world.
Every life that was lost will be for nothing.
The country will become over run with terroist and then WE will have a weapon pointed at us.

Until the job is done. Holy Cow! You liberals sound like whining little kids on a car trip that ask "Are we there yet?" every 2 minutes.

Once again Senator McCain’s words are being twisted and used out of the context they were meant.
The war in Europe ended in 1945 yet we still have troops in Germany. That is what Senator McCain was talking about. We will have a presence in Iraq after the war is over and after Al Sadr is wiped out. (Yes I believe he should have been taken out 3 or 4 years ago.)
Can’t answer a question that is based on the future, no one knows what the future can bring.
Best guess is that If McCain is elected he will increase the size of at least the army. And he will go straight up against Al Sadr and his militia. This will either end the fighting within a month or Iran will openly attack US troops.

I hope we will have them out of the country before the death toll gets to 58,000+

I don’t know.
How many tours have soldiers been serving in Germany, over the course of a 20-30 year career?

We have a job to finish there and as already stated before me, we can’t just pack up and leave – leaving ourselves to be the target, we need to stick it out.
Our troops signed up for this, they signed up to defend our country and our freedom and protect us from terrorism, that is what they are doing.

We are seeing the effect now. Our soldiers are voting by not re-enlisting. We are losing a tremedous pool of talent.

The stop loss was the first indicator Soldiers that served ha 2 years left for possible service. A around this time many are hitting ending that term. Yes, many are not reenlisting. There reasons are there own for those that think otherwise, sign up – the Service is hiring.. any takers.

Wha we need is a draft so that it ends quicker, otherwise cast your vote.

Looking back over history to answer your question, I would like to stop during the Vietnam War, our brave men of this Great Nation that we live in, went to battle fought and died in that God forsaken war. As a Vietnam Era Veteran I seen the cruelness of some Americans that lashed out against the Vietnam Veterans, when they come home. That was the longest war America has ever fought in. We started sending Military Advisers to South Vietnam as far back as 1959. The Vietnam War ended in 1976, when we pulled out, and that blacken the eye of America for many years.
We as a Nation do not need a situation like that again, especially during worse moments of Terrorism. Who do you think we are fighting over there, where do you want the military to fight this war, in the streets of America? We are involved against Terrorism and the worst thing that could ever happen is for us to just pick up and pull out.
The public and politics pulled us out of Vietnam, when they should of kept there noses out of it, and let the the Soldiers win it. Today I see the same thing but with a different twist,
I see reports from the News, and other sources, people protesting this war in the middle East, taking place at the burials sites of our fallen Brother Soldiers. This type of thing really saddens my heart, did everyone forget about 911 already. Guess people like you have not thought about all of this, and don’t understand what we are really dealing with in the Middle East.
We will need to have presence there after the war, which has been done from other wars this Great Nation has fought in. Maybe a Draft needs to be started, I haven’t looked on both sides of that decision if it is ever made. Right now though we can and will win this war on Terrorism, and I believe that many our Soldiers and Veterans alike will agree.
I am not siding with John McCain because he is a Veitnam Veteran, he has made some very good points, about the war in Iraq. He is correct in saying we must keep a presence there after the war. Just like we did after WW 2, and the Korean war. If we don’t Terrorism is just going to start all over again and a lot more innocent civilians will died.
